Bug List
- Airline Delays/overbooking/poor customer service:I understand there are delays in schedules, but our time is important too. Sometimes something other than just saying sorry in a very unapologetic way would be nice. Overbooking of flights usually causes delays because they are always trying to negotiate with some passenger to take another flight.
- Drive -thrus most of the time gets your orders wrong.I can’t put all drive-thrus in this bucket. There is an exception to this aggravating occurrence. I can honestly say that Chick fil a does a very good job of making sure your order is correct. I think the difference is the people who work at Chick fil a have expectations that the franchise owner expects from each of its team members. I have found in my years of business that people do what you inspect not necessarily what you expect.
- Cell phone contracts:It’s ridiculous that you have to sign a two year contract with most cell phone companies. The reason they do that is so when you get bad service you can’t just replace them with another carrier without paying a substantial penalty. If they had amazing service at a reasonable price retention would not be a problem.
- People holding up the line in front of you because they are on their cell phone while the clerk is trying to help them.Simple answer ----rude.
- My neighbors barking dog late at night.I love my neighbors, but once the dog starts howling get up off the couch and let the furry little beast back inside.
- Doctors’ appointments- How disrespectful is it to your patients to have them adjust the schedule to be there at a specific time and you not honor their appointment time when they arrive? It’s all about being greedy. They try to make as many appointments in a day as possible. Truly running you through like an assembly line. I would like to bill them for my extra time I sit in the waiting room as they will surely bill you for a missed appointment.
- People borrowing something (tools) from you and not returning them to you.One solution would be to make them sign a loaner tool receipt with an expected return date. It also reminds you who you let borrow that tool you are now looking for.
- Loaning money to a friend or family member having to ask them for it later when so much time has passed and they have not offered to repay you.Sometimes they are embarrassed to see you because they haven’t repaid you. This one gets a little tricky. As bad as you hate to do it you must make it formal and put it in writing with both parties’ agreeing on the terms.
- Lack of personal space. When friends, strangers, or co-workers get right in your face when they are speaking to you.Ugh, I hate this. Some people actually try to use this as a form of intimidation. However, I think most people are unaware that they are doing this. You can only hold your breath for so long before you have to breathe. Make sure when encountering these people to not get yourself blocked in with a wall close to your back.
- Stepping on chewing gum on a hot Florida summer day. That’s just a result of people being inconsiderate of others.
- Wife or kids not answering cell phone when I call.I hate to spend over $200.00 per month on something that is only used at others convenience. I guess they feel whatever text or game they are playing at the time is more important than my call.
- Being included in a group text. This is very annoying, because you get a text each time someone in the group responds. It also looks rude if you take yourself out of the group text. Either way you LOSE!!!
- Band Wagon Fans:It just doesn’t seem fair to spend our hard earned money going to every game especially when you are having a losing season and then when you start winning everyone seems to have a shirt with your team’s logo on it. The team needs more support when they are having an off season. Be there when they need you…
- People who don’t use blinkers. Most of the times they just think they own the road and they can drive however they want and everyone else can just deal with it. However, some people may have their blinkers on and not even know it. Those are the dangerous ones. You are about to pull out onto the road because you think they are turning in. Don’t let this fool you. I have learned through many years traveling to never trust other people’s blinkers.
- People wearing to much perfume or cologne. The problem you find as people get older they get desensitized to the perfume that they are wearing. What started with just a little dab years ago is now turned into a full on splash bath of perfume to achieve what they think is just adding a nice little sent for those who may encounter them that day.
- People who talk with food in their mouth. Not sure if they are trying to be rude or if they think what they have to say is that important. I’m sure some of it is their upbringing. If your parents never told you it was rude then maybe you wouldn’t know not to do that. However, I prefer you to not spit your food out of your mouth and onto my plate as you waxing eloquently about something.
- Telemarketers…Really, do I even need to explain this one? Don’t call me and tell me you’re not selling anything and then try to make me feel terrible when I don’t buy anything.
- People who tailgate. These people are just stupid. They are putting your life and theirs in danger.
- Having to drive two hundred miles to go to a staff meeting that last only 45 minutes. Not sure why we don’t do more tele-conferencing. We seem to spend a lot of unnecessary money on things like travel, lodging and food. I understand how important face to face is, but let’s use a little technology every now and then.
- No toilet paper in public restroom.Ugh!!! Not a glamorous job in the first place. That could possibly show a lack of respect for your customer or in this case the “end user.” Sorry I couldn’t resist.I didn’t really find this to be to challenging of an exercise. I believe we could even narrowed it down to maybe ten things in business that bug you. I did like the fact that it was open to anything that bugs you though.Pretty cool exercise…..Interesting!
James, I noticed we have some "bugs" in common. One of the bugs I completely agree with you in is people not answering phone calls. We all know that just about everyone has their phone in their hand 24/7, and for God’s sake it might be an emergency. Also, people who don’t use blinkers or just leave them on instead as if they were going to make a turn. Like you mentioned those who leave the blinkers on are the ones we really have to look out for. People who tailgate also made it to “My bug list”, it’s just incredible to see people act in such a way. Overall, I really enjoying reading over your list. I have attached the link to my very own “Bug List” feel free to read over it.

Hi James, I really enjoyed your post. I found all of your bugs to be very relatable to myself and most other people. You did a good job explaining each one and I found your writing to be entertaining. I enjoyed a laugh after reading numbers 12&13 and can relate a lot to your comments about blinkers, drive thrus, and people who tailgate. I get furious when someone sticks to my back bumper, especially on the highway!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honesty and creativity. I was not as comfortable as you when writing my list and found it to be quite challenging. Check out what I came up with in the link provided below.
Have a good one!
