"Google Gold"

Almost 40 blog posts ago, you started ENT 3003 and created a web log for this class. Since then, you've crafted a blog around a business concept, honing your keyword use, linking to other blogs, and perhaps even using your broader social media network to enhance your blog's exposure.
Showing up in that first page of Google results is make-or-break for many an entrepreneur, especially in this day and age. For this exercise, please reflect back on your efforts to promote your blog. Please include the following:

1) A discussion of your general approach and strategy to search engine optimiation (SEO). What were some of the activities you did for each blog post to pursue SEO?

I just made sure that everyone I interviewed had a chance to look at his or her interviews on my blog site. I’m sure they also told their friends to look and see them. I used word of mouth to my friends about my class.

2) What were your keywords. How did you select those keywords? Did you change or refine your keywords through the semester?

It was just amazing to me by the very subject matter and titles of our assignments incorporated many of the buzzwords that are popular in business and with entrepreneurs.  I used words like Entrepreneurship, innovation, free money and used the names of some famous people in the industry that my entrepreneurial idea would be used in.

3) How did you use social media to enhance your SEO efforts? What your your surprises or general impression of using social media to improve your blog's profile? Was social media generally receptive of your blog, or did it get ignored?

I’m not sure if Social Media really played much of a part in my reaching the first page on the Google search. However, if I have a product that was ready for the market place I would definitely use Social Media. It has proven to be a very successful and powerful tool.

4) What was your most "viral" post? In other words, which post obtained the most traffic? Why do you think?

My most viral post was the topic of Celebrating Failure. I’m not sure why I had the most traffic on that one, but I think it was the fact that the words Celebration and Failure were in the same sentence. I think it is a subject on hope. People want to know that a temporary failure is not a permanent circumstance. I also noticed that some of my views came from Canada and Alaska.

5) Finally, did you make it to the first page of Google results for your keywords? If not, what page of results did you make it to?

I did make the first page on the Google Search. I have made it on the first page on several different topics. I saw a few of my elevator pitches along with my short interview landed on the first page. I thought that was really cool to see something I did ended up on the Internet.

  1. Hey James, Thats a very good idea to use word of mouth to start advertising your blod/ company on small scale. word of mouth travels fast and is most of the time the most trustworthy way to make sure what your getting is good info. Also i would encourage you to venture out into more broad and diverse advertising ideas. Word of mouth is great but sometimes you need something more effective that can reach a larger audience. Have you tried internet advertising? Like a YouTube ad? or promoting your blog through social media? give it a shot! it will be very beneficial!

Also heres my blog! give it a look!
